Bellafill is a long-lasting dermal filler that is FDA-approved and uses collagen and tiny polymethylmethacrylate beads. Bellafill was formerly known as Artefill and is used for treating nasolabial folds and certain types of acne scars. Bellafill is also used to fill lines and wrinkles and for nonsurgical chin, cheek, and nose augmentation.

Bellafill is not recommended for people who are under 21, who have severe allergies, especially to bovine collagen, or anyone with a condition that causes irregular scarring.

What is Bellafill good for?

Bellafill is unique as dermal fillers go. It works differently than other, similar dermal fillers. It is collagen-based and stimulates the body’s own collagen production while adding volume to the skin. It gives an immediate plumping effect. Its versatility allows it to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines and also can fill acne scars.

It is particularly good at filling nasolabial folds around the mouth and can temporarily erase them. It can be injected into acne scars to fill them and they can blend into the rest of the skin.

Bellafill’s main ingredient is polymethylmethacrylate or PMMA has been used for more than 65 years. When it is injected below the surface of the skin it creates a place for the body to naturally build collagen upon.

Bellafill gives immediate results when it is injected. The results are also long-lasting because of the stimulation of natural collagen production.

Is Bellafill better than Juvederm?

Bellafill is an FDA-approved, long-lasting dermal filler used to treat wrinkles and skin folds. It is also the only filler that has been approved to treat acne scarring. Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that has been approved by the FDA to treat wrinkles and skin folds on the face, temporarily. Both of these are often used for off-label cosmetic contouring or plumping areas on the face.

Both Bellafill and Juvederm have a good reputation and people have been satisfied with both. Bellafill is the only dermal filler approved to treat acne scarring. Its longevity is its real strength, which is about 5 years. Bellafill is also very good for smile lines. Juvederm has not been approved for acne scars. It is more of a temporary filler, lasting from 9 months to 2 years. While it doesn’t last as long as Bellafill, it is very effective at treating deep wrinkles and creating volume in the lips, where Bellafill has not been approved for such use.

How much does a syringe of Bellafill cost?

In 2017 a syringe of Bellafill cost $859 per syringe. Bellafill now costs anywhere from $1,000 to $1,500 per syringe.

In 2017 Juvederm cost $682. It now costs from $500 to $800 per syringe.

How many syringes of Bellafill do I need?

The number of syringes of Bellafill that will be needed will depend on what you are doing and what your aesthetic goals are.

If you are looking to treat acne scars, expect one syringe to treat about 9 scars. If you want to treat more, it will need to be done about 8 weeks after your first injection. It isn’t recommended to inject more than one syringe at a time.

If you are looking to get something like an apple cheek look it can take 1 to 2 syringes per side, possibly more depending on what you want to achieve.
